Poonhill Trek

Poonhill trek from Pokhara in Annapurna region is the short and easy trek. It is very ideal trek for every trekking enthusiast. This trek offers trekking and hiking experiences through beautiful forests and  terraced fields.

It offers glimpse of best sunrise views over the Himalayas from the iconic Poon Hill. Along with the exploration of local culture and tradition in Ghandruk and Landruk villages. This seven days of trekking in the Annapurna region would certainly delight you in every way.

Journey to Poonhill Trek

We embark on our Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek from one of the most attractive cities of the world, Pokhara. Initially, we take a short drive towards Suikhet Phedi .And then  start trekking through the west of Henjakot to arrive at Dhampus.

This place offers dazzling views of snow-capped mountains like Mt. Machapuchare (Fishtail Mountain) and Mt. Annapurna South. Next day we will be passing through beautiful rhododendron forests to reach Landruk village which is locally inhabited by Gurungs.

In the following day after having our usual breakfast, we head towards beautiful Ghandruk village. Ghandruk village exhibits the terrace fields with the views of glorious Himalayas at the backdrop.

The Ghorepani quest begins the next day with approx. 8 hours of walking through Tadapani, forests in Deurali and finally arrive at the Magar village of Ghorepani.

Further, we will be hiking early in the morning towards Poon hill to capture the best sunrise views over the Himalayas. We will be returning to Ghorepani for further exploration of the village and head towards Birethanti next day.

The trails generally involve descending through stone paved staircases and sight of breathtaking views. Finally, we conclude our trek after arriving at Birethanti and driving back towards Pokhara city. By doing so, we plan on ending our dramatic experience trek in the heartland of Annapurna region.

  • day 01
    Arrival

    Welcome by our representative at the airport, transfer to hotel in Kathmandu. Later enjoy a welcome dinner in the evening.

  • day 02
    Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley (Swoyambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Kathmandu Durbar Square)

    After having our breakfast, we are going to do some sightseeing activities today. As planned, we will explore some of the most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites inside Kathmandu valley. Upon finishing our tour, we shall then drive back to your hotel.

  • day 03
    Drive to Pokhara

    Today we are going to head off to the famous lake city of Pokhara. The entire drive will take us about 7 to 8 hours to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu. We leave the noisy streets of Kathmandu and follow a winding roadway along the scintillating Trishuli river. Your eyes will be occupied by the views of green lush hills, small towns, people, markets and rivers. You can witness the first glimpses of Nepalese diversity of your trek while enjoying your drive. Later, after reaching Pokhara city, you and your friends will be escorted to your respective hotel rooms by our representative.

    Drive from Pokhara to Suikhet Phedi and hike to Dhumpus(1650m)

    Our Ghorepani Poon Hill trek begins with a short drive from Pokhara to Suikhet Phedi. Located at an elevation of 1130 m, Suikhet Phedi is the perfect place for us to take our first steps inside the fabulous Annapurna region. Initially after reaching here, we meet up with the remaining trekking crew and then begin walking on an uphill trail towards the village of Astam. Next, we follow the ridge above Yangri stream through the west of Henjakot and ultimately reach Dhumpus shortly after. From here, trekkers can see eye-catching close up views of Mt. Machapuchare and Annapurna South.

  • day 05
    Trek from Dhampus to Landruk (1646 m)

    As we finish having our breakfast, we shall resume our trek with an ascent for an hour through the dense forest of Rhododendrons and Orchids. We soon reach a high altitude of 2160m. Further ahead, we gradually descend down to Ghatte Khola village for about another hour. We shall rest down for a bit and have our lunch here before moving onward. Our trail leads us further down to a large Gurung Village which is called Landruk. This village is located above the Modi river (1646m) located above the Modi river and will be our final destination for the day.

  • day 06
    Trek from Landruk to Ghandruk (1951 m)

    Another beautiful morning awaits us as we wake up in the charming village of Landruk. We now continue onward with our trek and walk down for an hour long towards Modi River. Later, we have to follow uphill trail through a steep trail for about two hours. And we march ahead through some terraced fields, we shall reach Ghandruk village (1951m). This picturesque village with slate-roofed houses surrounded by mesmerizing Himalayan views is a pleasant place for the night halt. Hence, you can get a direct view of Mt. Annapurna South and Mt. Himchuli (6441m). Furthermore, the headquarters of Annapurna Conversation Center is also located in this village, which looks after the management of the lodges in the area.

  • day 07
    Ghandruk to Ghorepani (2855 m)

    Its day seven and we now have to leave Ghandruk village today. It will be long day for us as we plan to reach Ghorepani village (2855m). With almost 8 hours of walking involved over a single day, we recommend trekkers to keep themselves hydrated throughout the day. So, after eating our breakfast, we shall pack and carry our bags once again for 4 hour long gradual ascent to Tadapani. Our trail will take us through a forest covered with lovely Rhododendron trees and waterfalls. Next, our walk begins again towards Bhainsekharka for an hour and then follow a steep ascent towards Deurali for two hours. From here onward, we now have to descend down for an hour to reach a traditional Magar Village called Ghorepani.

  • day 08
    Excursion to Poon Hill (3193 m AMSL, Duration: 3 hrs) and leisure day at Ghorepani

    With highly boosted enthusiasm and joy, we start our day in the beautiful Ghorepani village. But today we have to wake up a bit early than usually as we have to hike up the iconic Poon hill for an overwhelming Himalayan sunrise view. Following our trail ahead, we are now going to move towards Poonhill. Set to mesmerize our spirits, we carefully walk up through several stone steps for about an hour to reach the top of Poon Hill. With the orange and red rays of sunlight striking the stunning Himalayan massifs, you can see Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Mt. Manaslu (8156m) along with numerous other snowcapped peaks atop from Poonhill. After enjoying the view, we shall now head back towards Ghorepani.

  • day 09
    Ghorepani to Birethanti (1050 m)

    Initially, we have to descend through stone paved staircases towards Banthani for two hours. Banthani has a few tourist lodges, which gives way to the beautiful forest full of Rhododendron forest. The trip then continues towards Ulleri, on a stony trail for about an hour. Breathtaking views, including the beautifully slate-roofed Magar village awaits you at Ulleri. In addition to that, you can even see the magnificent Bhurungdi valley below. Moving on with our trek, we now continue our journey through the stone steps yet again for an hour and a half. And later, we reach the Hile village after crossing the Bhurungdi river. Next, we walk for about two hours through beautiful villages and terraced fields before arriving at the confluence of Modi Khola and Bhurungdi Khola. From here, we follow a straight pathway to reach our final destination of Birethanti.

    Birethanti to Pokhara

    We have now reached the final phase of our trek. As we now have to have to walk for an hour to reach the nearest road and then take a 2-hour drive to Pokhara. After reaching Pokhara, you can simply rest your exhausted bodies or go out for some short stroll around the touristic Lakeside.

  • day 11
    Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

    Our trek has come to an end and so we will now take a drive back to the Kathmandu city. Following the similar route through hills and valleys, we will reach Kathmandu in about 7 to 8 hours. Later in the evening enjoy the Farewell Dinner.
