Island Peak Trek

Island peak trek  presents us with an opportunity  to view the magnificent  mountains . Mt. Everest and other eye-catching Himalayan mountains of Khumbu region such as Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori  can be viewed from the famous viewpoint of Kalapatthar.Not just that, but you can even climb the alluring Island Peak. It is one of the most popular trekking peak in Nepal.

Island Peak Trek Itinerary

Island peak trek  initiates after we board a short mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Then we  trek towards beautiful village of Phakding.

Island peak trek comprises passing through dense forests. It provides opportunity of encountering  various flora and faunas. From Phakding we will trek to Namche Bazaar. It is the famous acclimatizing and meeting point for the trekkers, mountaineers and adventure explorers in Everest region.

Further we will trek through Tengboche visiting various monasteries which gives us an insight to Tibetan influenced Buddhism culture and tradition. Trekking ahead for couple of days through Pheriche, Lobuche and Gorakshep; we arrive at Kalapatthar; the best ever Everest view point on earth. We will then trek back to Gorakshep and feel the grand experience of being at base camp of highest mountain on earth, Mt. Everest.

Leaving behind Everest Base Camp, we return to Lobuche followed by trekking towards Chukung and Island peak base camp. Next day early morning we will climb Island peak and return to Chukung. Every mountaineer before embarking for the Everest summit climbs the Island peak for acclimatizing and warm up purpose. Even Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa had climbed island peak before successfully conquering Mt. Everest for the very first time in 1953 AD. Descending further towards Dingboche, Tengboche, Namche, Phakding and Lukla we will board a flight back towards Kathmandu and conclude our trek.

    Arrival

    Upon your landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, a representative of Euro-Asia will be waiting for you at the airport terminal. He/she will then escort you to a private vehicle and transfer you to your hotel. After getting your room keys, you can simply go in your room and take some rest for the mean time. Later in the evening enjoy Welcome Dinner.

    Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley ( Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan City, Swoyambhunath Stupa)

    After breakfast we are going to do some sightseeing activities today. As planned, we are going to explore some of the most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites, evening drive back to Hotel.

  • day 03
    Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2850 m AMSL) and a trek to Phakding (2640 m AMSL)

    Starting off with a 35-minute scenic flight to Lukla, we leave the capital city behind and head out towards the blessed natural sanctuary of Everest region. Spectacular views of the snowcapped Himalayan mountains greet us as our flight tends to head north-east towards the small hill airstrip of Tenzing-Hillary Airport. Shortly after landing at Lukla (2,850m), we shall gather our remaining trek members and begin our incredible EBC trek with the first steps into the luxuriant Khumbu region. Initially, our winding trail descends down to Chaurikharka and then goes through Cheplung, Thado Koshi & Chhuthawa villages one by one. Continuing on, we traverse amongst a densely forested trek trail & ultimately arrive at the village of Phakding after a short ascent.

    Trek from Phakding to Namche (3450 m AMSL)

    Waking up with a blissful joy of excitement, we experience our first morning in the heartland of the Himalayas. Soon after finishing our appetizing yet nutritious breakfast, we move down from Phakding and tumble our way towards Bhotekoshi River. Next is the small village of Jorsale which will be reached after crossing a high suspension bridge and walking for about 2 hours alongside a striking trek trail. Before marching forward, we will need to check out our trekking permits at the Sagarmatha National Park check post which is located at Jorsale village. Upon finishing our official formalities, we continue on with our trek and enter the stunning Sagarmatha National Park. Now our trail drops gently down to a long suspension bridge covered with fluttering Buddhist prayer flags. After crossing this bridge, we shall walk for another 2 to 3 hours on a steep Himalayan terrain and later arrive at the outstanding Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar.

    Rest Day at Namche

    As scheduled, today we are planned to stay at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization purposes. Situated at a high altitude of 3,450 meters above sea level, Namche Bazaar is the perfect place to help our bodies acclimatize and adjust to the environmental changes of such high altitudes. Due to change in weather, altitude and the rigorous exercise of walking terrains, a day is taken off the schedule for trekkers to rest and enjoy the sites around Namche Bazaar. During this day, trekkers can hike little up towards the Everest View Hotel for spectacular views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Ama Dablam alongside others snowcapped giants. Lastly, the major aim of this day is to prevent any possible symptoms of High Altitude Sickness which may hamper the remaining trek days.

  • day 06
    Trek from Namche to Tengboche (3860 m AMSL)

    As the sun shines over the beautiful hills and valleys of Khumbu region, you need to wake up and have your breakfast as we plan on leaving Namche Bazaar today. Following a trail that traverses from Choi Gang to Kyanjuma Foundation, we descent down to a suspension bridge across Dudh Koshi River. After crossing the bridge and passing a few tea houses en route, the trail reaches Phunki Thanga. Pointing towards the next destination, pleasant walk uphill begins that goes through a blended trail of forest and shrubs. And if you are lucky, you can even get to spot Pheasants, Tahr and Deer along the way. At the end of the climb, you will reach Kani which is an arched entrance with ceiling paintings of deities and forms of Lord Buddha. Three hours later, trekkers arrive at Tengboche village and are bountifully presented with one of the best glimpses of Mt. Everest, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse & Mt. Thamserku, Moreover, the largest Buddhist Monastery of Khumbu region lies here so you may even go and visit the Tengboche Monastery.

    Trek from Tengboche to Pheriche (4280 m AMSL)

    Day seven begins with a trek trails that goes along a gently sloping track, which then climbs up and starts becoming steeper with each step. Following the trail ahead, trekkers move past a few small dwellings and a forest which will slowly take trekkers towards a lovely village called Pangboche. Being small Sherpa village, Pangboche is renowned for its eccentric Buddhist Monasteries. Continuing on with our trek, we walk through the beautiful meadow fields, several tea houses and ultimately reach Pheriche, after 3 hours of trek from Pangboche village.

  • day 08
    Rest day at Pheriche

    You have to keep in mind that while trekking at very high altitude, your body tires out faster and needs time to recuperate itself. Hence, just like Namche Bazaar, we are going to stay in Pheriche for the day being and give our body the much-needed rest which it solely deserves. It is a free day so either you can rest or roam around the surrounding areas of Pheriche village. That is totally up to you. But we suggest going out and enjoying the natural surroundings while taking memorable photographs will be more enjoyable than just sitting inside your lodge/tea house.

  • day 09
    Trek from Pheriche to Lobuche (4940 m AMSL)

    As usual we are going to wake up early and have our breakfast. Then we head out through meandering trails towards Lobuche. The branching of a trail track on the left of the main trail sets off directly towards the bridge to Tukla over a few slippery boulders, while the main trail converges with the trail from Dingboche, minutes before reaching the bridge to Tukla. The onward journey then continues with a climb over the ridge behind Dingboche. Following one of the many trails to the elevated plain, the trek gets tougher as we hike up for nearly 3 hours. Later, we shall reach our final destination of Lobuche village.

  • day 10
    Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep (5170 m AMSL) to Kalapatthar (5545 m AMSL) and return to Gorakshep

    Today the entire trek duration can be around 7 to 8 hours as we plan on climbing up to Kalapatthar and return back to Gorakshep. Due to which, this day is going to be longest day of our entire trek. Marching ahead, we ascent up through a rocky trail towards Gorakshep. And after walking for about 4 hours, we shall reach Gorakshep. Beyond Gorakshep, the demanding climb on the steep terrain towards Kalapatthar begins, which my take us about three hours to complete. Nevertheless, upon reaching the top of Kalapatthar, we are offered with a magnificent Himalayan view which includes the majestic Mt. Everest and its surrounding area. So, don’t forget to click a picture of yourself with the highest mountain of the world as your background. Lastly, after enjoying the view, we descend towards Gorakshep for about an hour.

    Trek from Gorakshep to Everest Base Camp (5400 m) and return to Lobuche

    The most memorable and highlighted day of our entire trek has finally arrived. It’s day eleventh and now we make our final steps to reach the incredible Everest Base Camp which is situated at a high elevation of 5,400 meters above sea level. Following a yak trail, we pass through beautiful yak meadows and the colossal Khumbu Glacier while on our way to the EBC. After arriving at the base camp, you can have complete rest and then roam around to closely observe the base camp area while taking many memorable photographs of your achievement. Here onward the ends with the return trek to Lobuche.

    Trek from Lobuche to Chukhung (5535m, 8-9 hrs)

    Another strenuous day awaits us today as we continue our trekking adventure. So, after waking up in the frisky village of Lobuche, we pack up our bags once again for a hike towards Chukhung. As the refreshing morning wind blows, our path leads us through Kongma La Pass. We need to be highly vigilant while crossing the pass which has a high elevation of 5,535 m. Upon reaching the top of the pass, you can witness a tantalizing mountain scenery which will include Mt. Nuptse and Polakde Peak. Now from here begins the descending trail down to Chukhung village.

  • day 13
    Reserve day for Rest and Acclimatization

    Located at 4,730m, Chukhung village is a perfect place for acclimatization. Therefore, we are going to spend this entire day to help our bodies acclimatize properly before heading further. And if you like, then you can just use this day to go on an easygoing hike to an uphill ridge called Chukhung Ri. It’s not very far from the village and you can even return back before sunset. You don’t need to pack or carry anything. However, you may want to wear some sunscreen if you don’t want to get sunburn. Anyway, as soon as you reach the top, a beautiful overwhelming view of the Everest region can be seen. Later, you have to trail you way back down to Chukhung village.

  • day 14
    Trek to Island peak base camp (5240m, 4 hrs)

    After enjoying a full night rest, your bodies have now fully re-energized for your next venture to Island Peak Base Camp. Though, it won’t be much taxing today. We move further to cross the flowing Imja river and then begin progressing ahead towards a valley aside a sloppy route. At this point lies the much-anticipated base camp of Island Peak which will be our final destination for the day being. However, before we go to sleep, our expert climbing leaders will provide us some basic climbing training and lessons prior to your climb. In addition to that, you can take this as an opportunity to learn about the techniques needed to use the climbing gears and equipment.

  • day 15
    Trek from Island Peak Base Camp to High Camp

    Today is the day we start our ambitious Island Peak climb. We need to make an early start so make sure to wake up early. The winds become strong when approaching afternoon. And we have to reach at High Camp before that at any cost. In the beginning of our climb, the trail starts to get some ground as we leave the base camp behind. A steep section emerges in front of us. Getting over it will be our priority which won’t be much difficult but it will need a high amount of dedication and focus. Later on, the slope starts to narrow down to take us closer to our final destination. And soon after that, we will reach High Camp.

  • day 16
    Trek from High Camp to Island Peak summit (6,189m/20,305ft), back to base camp (10-12 hours)

    Its day sixteen and we now make our move to reach the summit of Island Peak. After waking up, we gather up our equipment and team members, then follow a route along a ridge-line. Next, a steep section of the trail leads us towards the ridge of the summit. Also, there might be some crevasses on the last section of climb. So, we will be using ladders to get through them and reach the summit of Island Peak. Take photographs and cherish your achievement as you deserve it. Lastly, don’t forget to enjoy the views as they are simply breathtaking. After that, we descend back down to the base camp.

  • day 17
    Trek from Island Base Camp to Dingboche (4410m)

    Yesterday you conquered the summit of Island Peak and now we start our return back to Dingboche village. Initially, we retrace our steps by following the same route which was previously used by us to reach here. We cross the Imja river once again and continue descending all the way down to Dingboche village. It will be short downhill walk today which means you have ample time to rest.

  • day 18
    Trek from Dingboche to Tengboche (3870m)

    Similarly, like yesterday, today is also all about retracing our steps back down. Hence, after finishing our breakfast, we carry our bags again and continue trekking down to Tengboche village. During our descent, we will be passing through Pangboche and Deboche villages. Later after walking for about 3 – 4 hours from Dingboche, we shall arrive at our final destination of Tengboche village.

  • day 19
    Trek from Tengboche to Manjo (2810m)

    Comparatively speaking our trek is going to mostly follow a downhill trail. And as we reach lower regions, you can breathe more easily and comfortably. Later after hours of walking, we arrive at the lively Himalayan town of Namche Bazaar. But we are not going stop here. We plan on descending much further than Namche Bazaar today. So, with a few more steps, we shall arrive at our final destination of Monjo village.

    Trek from Monjo to Lukla (2800m)

    Continuing our descent, we pass through several high suspension bridges and densely forested trek trails. You will notice the trails getting thicker and thicker with lush vegetation surrounding you from all the sides. Soon, we will reach Phakding village and traverse further through the wilderness of Khumbu region. Later on, we wind our way to Lukla where you can treat yourself with the local cuisine and enjoy the sceneries around you.

    Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu

    Today we are going to take a flight back to Kathmandu city from Lukla and end our trek inside Everest region. After landing at the domestic airport of Kathmandu, a representative of Euro-Asia will assist & transfer you to your hotel. Later in the evening enjoy Farewell Dinner.
