From Thong La Pass, travelers can witness amazing view of the entire Tibetan landscape including the scintillating snowcapped summit of Mt. Shisapangma – the highest mountain located inside Tibet. Day

After having our breakfast, we take drive towards Lake Mansarovar today. Here onward, we head towards Hor Quo and then continue with our drive to cross the Mayum La Pass which is a high mountain pass at a high altitude of 5,225m located southeast of Lake Mansarovar. This pass is locally referred to as Mariám La. Another noteworthy point of this day is that pilgrims and travelers can get the first glimpses of the divine Mt. Kailash with their very own eyes right in front of them as they get ever closer to Lake Mansarovar. En-route towards the Mansarovar Lake, we can also observe the popular Rakshas Tal and after relaxing and stopping at Lake Mansarovar, we shall drive towards Chui Gompa to end our day.

Trek over Dolma La Pass (5650m) to Zuthul Puk (4700m)
Day
08
It’s another beautiful day and so we wake up with a very exciting feeling to continue with our trek towards Zhuthulphuk today. Our pilgrimage journey aka Parikrama is destined to take us even higher so we shall fill up our tummies with nourished breakfast and then proceed further by ascending higher to the top of Dolma La Pass. This pass can be a troublesome part of this entire day, as it goes at higher elevations where you might feel some dizziness or weakness of some sort due to a reduced amount of air density. Nevertheless, this trek to Dolma La Pass can give you a very overwhelming panoramic view of the entire Tibetan plateau which you can cherish for your entire lifetime. From here onward, we begin our descent down to Zuthulphuk via Gauri Kund which is a very scared site for Hindu believers. This downward path is very demanding due to rocks & loose stones so here it’s necessary to walk very cautiously.
Stay overnight at Zuthulphuk.

Drive to Paryang (4750m)
Day
09
After a proper good night sleep, pilgrims need to wake up and eat their breakfast before taking on the final trail of the entire pilgrimage journey. Today marks the end of our anticipated pilgrimage as we head back to Darchen from Zuthulphuk. Compared to yesterday, your trekking trail today is much easy as you walk upon a flat terrain much of the time. However, after reaching Darchen, we again get escorted inside a tour vehicle (Jeep) and then start driving towards Paryang. Upon arriving at Paryang, you can eat your dinner and sleep for the remaining night.
Stay overnight at Paryang.

Trip Information
Why is Kailash Mansarovar Yatra So Sacred?
- Hindus believe Mount Kailash is the eternal residence of Lord Shiva, and performing a Parikrama (Kora) around the mountain cleanses all sins.
- Buddhists revere Kailash as the center of the universe, home to Buddha Demchok.
- Jains believe it to be the site where Rishabhdev attained moksha (liberation).
- Bonpos, Tibet’s ancient religion, considers it the seat of spiritual power.
A pilgrimage here is considered the pinnacle of spiritual journeys, offering blessings, purification, and the promise of enlightenment.
Best Time for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
- May to September is the best season
- Full Moon Yatra dates are highly preferred for spiritual significance
- Avoid winter (October–April) due to harsh weather and closed borders
How Tough is the Kailash Parikrama?
The Kailash Parikrama is considered a moderate to challenging high-altitude trek. The 3-day kora covers approximately 52 km and crosses the high mountain pass of Dolma La Pass (5,630m), which is the toughest section of the journey.
Pilgrims walk 5–8 hours daily on rocky terrain at high altitude. The main challenge is thin air rather than technical difficulty. Proper acclimatization, slow walking pace, and hydration make the journey manageable for most travelers.
This sacred circuit around Mount Kailash is physically demanding but spiritually rewarding.
Who Should Take This Tour? (Fitness & Age Guide)
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is suitable for:
- Physically active adults aged 18–70 years
- Travelers comfortable walking 5–6 hours per day
- Pilgrims with basic trekking stamina
- Mentally prepared spiritual seekers
You do not need advanced trekking skills, but good cardiovascular fitness is highly recommended. Those with serious heart, lung, or high blood pressure conditions should consult a doctor before joining this high-altitude pilgrimage.
With proper preparation, most healthy individuals can complete the yatra successfully.
What to Pack for a High-Altitude Pilgrimage?
Packing smartly is essential for the Kailash Mansarovar Parikrama. Weather can change quickly in the Tibetan plateau.
Essential Packing List:
- Down jacket (warm and windproof)
- Thermal base layers
- Waterproof trekking jacket & pants
- Comfortable trekking boots
- Woolen hat, gloves, and sunglasses
- Sunscreen (high SPF) & lip balm
- Personal medications
- Reusable water bottle
- Small day backpack
Because you will visit sacred sites like Lake Manasarovar, modest and comfortable clothing is recommended.
Why Choose the Overland Route Instead of Lhasa or Helicopter?
Many pilgrims prefer the overland route from Kathmandu to Mount Kailash because:
1. Better Acclimatization
Gradual altitude gain reduces the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
2. Cost-Effective Option
Overland tours are generally more affordable than helicopter packages.
3. Scenic Himalayan Drive
You experience breathtaking landscapes, remote Tibetan villages, and wide plateau views.
4. Spiritual Journey Experience
The slow travel approach enhances the pilgrimage experience compared to quick helicopter access.
While the Lhasa route offers cultural sightseeing and the helicopter option saves time, the overland journey provides better altitude adaptation and a deeper spiritual connection.
