We embark for the Ghorepani poon hill trek from one of the most attractive cities of the world, Pokhara. Initially we take a short drive towards Suikhet phedi and start trekking through west of Henjakot to arrive at Dhampus. This place offers the scintillating views of snow capped mountains like Fishtail Mountain and Mt. Annapurna south. Next day we will be passing through beautiful Rhododendron forests to reach Landruk village which is locally inhabitated by Gurungs. In the following day after having an instant meal we head towards beautiful Ghandruk village which exhibits the terrace fields with the views of glorious Himalayas at the backdrop. Ghorepani quest begins next day with approx 8 hours of walking through Tadapani, forests in Deurali and finally arrive at the Magar village of Ghorepani. Further we will be hiking early in the morning towards Poonhill to capture the best sunrise views over the Himalayas. We will be returning to Ghorepani for further exploration of the village and head towards Birethanti next day. The trails generally involve descending through stone paved staircases and sight of breathtaking views. Finally we conclude our Ghorepani poon hill trek after arriving at Birethanti and driving back towards Pokhara city.

Day to Day itinerary

    Day 01: Drive from Pokhara to Suikhet Phedi and trek from Suikhet Phedi to Dhampus (1650 m)
  • Ghorepani Poon Hill trek journey begins shortly after breakfast, which is followed by a short drive from Pokhara to Suikhet Phedi located at an elevation of 1130 m. Poon Hill trek begins shortly after stepping off the vehicle and meeting up with the trekking crew and with the ascent towards the village of Astam at the top of the ridge, following the ridge above Yangri stream. Follow the ridge through the west of Henjakot to finally reach Dhampus. Mesmerizing views of Mt. Machhapuchre and Annapurna South are on offer at Dhampus.
  • Day 02 : Trek from Dhampus to Landrung (1646 m)
  • Following breakfast, Ghorepani Poon hill trek resumes with an ascent for an hour through the dense forest of Rhododendrons and Orchids to a pass the altitude of 2160 m. Gradual descent commences further for another hour to reach Ghatte Khola for lunch. The trip continues to descend downhill towards a large Gurung Village at Landrung (1646 m) located above the Modi River and stay there for the night.
  • Day 03 : Trek from Landrung to Ghandrung (1951 m)
  • After breakfast, the trip begins with an hour long downward trek towards the Modi River, followed by an ascent through the steep trail for two hours through the terraced fields to reach Ghandrung (1951 m). This picturesque village with slate-roofed houses surrounded by terraced fields is a pleasant place for the night halt. This is a huge Gurung village, with amazing guests, good humour and hospitality. The headquarters of Annapurna Conversation Centre is also located in this village, which looks after the management of the lodges in the area. This village is beautifully situated in front of the peak of Annapurna South and Himchuli (6441 m).
  • Day 04 : Ghandrung - Ghorepani. (2855 m)
  • The trek towards Ghorepani begins as a long day, with almost 8 hours of walking involved over a single day. After breakfast the team gets ready for the four hour long gradual ascent to Tadapani, through a forest with different species of trees and Rhododendrons. Numerous lodges are situated in Tadapani. The walk begins again towards Bhainsekharka for an hour, followed by a steep ascent towards Deurali through a forest of conifers and Rhododendrons for two hours. After Deurali, the descent finally begins and after an hour of gradual descent, you will reach a traditional Magar Village of Ghorepani, located amidst a dense Rhododendron Forest.
  • Day 05 : Excursion to Poon Hill (3193 m AMSL, Duration: 3 hrs) and leisure day at Ghorepani.
  • Starting the morning with a quick hike uphill to Poon Hill, the Himalayan sunrise sets to mesmerise your memories. Starting at 5:00 hrs in the morning, you can hear the sounds of other trekking groups preparing for the pre-dawn assault on Poon Hill. Carefully walking on the possible slippery surfaces in the dark, an hour is all it takes to reach the top of Poon Hill. With the oranges and reds off the sun’s rays striking the beautifully standing crest of the wide Himalayan panorama stretching from Dhaulagiri 8167 m (the world’s seventh highest peak) to Manaslu standing at 8156 m (the world’s eighth highest peak) in the east, with the mighty Annapurna range in between them, the early wakeup and an hour long climb certainly pays off all efforts.
    The group then heads back towards Ghorepani, and the rest of the day is spent at leisure or you can travel around the village of Ghorepani.
  • Day 06 : Ghorepani - Birethanti (1050 m)
  • The trip today begins with a descent through the stone paved staircases. Following breakfast is a descent towards Banthani for two hours. Banthani has a few tourist lodges, which gives way to the beautiful forest full of varieties of Rhododendrons, most spectacular during March and April. The trip then continues towards Ulleri, on the stone steps for about an hour. Breathtaking views, including the beautifully slate-roofed Magar village awaits you at Ulleri. Magars are of Tibeto-Burman origin and are very skilled craftsmen in stone and wood works. Another magnificent view of Annapurna South and Himchuli, as well as Bhurungdi Valley below, awaits your arrival at Ulleri. Ghorepani Poon Hill trek  then continues through the stone steps yet again for an hour and a half, crossing the Bhurungdi River to reach Hille. After a stroll of about two hours along the trail through the beautiful villages and terraced fields, a confluence of Modi Khola and Bhurungdi Khola is to be crossed, to follow the trail to reach Birethanti.
  • Day 7 : Birethanti-Pokhara.
  • After breakfast, the trip continues with an hour long trek to reach the nearest road. The drive to Pokhara takes about two hours. Upon arrival in Pokhara, the rest of the day is leisure.
